One of the things about it is that it’s a must-see
There are a few things against it: forced laughter from Robin Wright, shallow stories, unclear sequences, no real conclusion to the interwoven stories. But the most disturbing thing is the overuse of CGI to the point where it’s almost a movie about AI. The opening sequence, the sharp focus of characters close to the “camera,” the fake fire in the fireplace, the disappearing wall so we can see the characters wave goodbye to each other.
The bones are there: the sets, the single-camera view, the monologues
If there are going to be feature-length AI movies in the near future, how long will our lives be like 15,000,000 credits of Black Mirror? That would work just as well as a play told in linear order. After half an hour, I was happy to watch the movies for free.
I ended up crying three times and laughing twice
But it’s probably best if you wait to see it at no extra cost on a streaming service. Once again, I have the same view on Beetlejuice as I do on Beetlejuice, so…
