American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Chronology
Follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how thanks to her exceptional mind, she is able to help solve a crime while rearranging evidence during her shift as a cleaner at the police department. Despite her sky-high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of the arcane, Morgan makes a number of basic legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched a TV show about the law would know not to make.
Nor could it be used to obtain other evidence – violation of the “fruit of the poisonous tree” legal doctrine
In episode one, for example, she obtains a document from a locked safe in the suspect victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court – illegally obtained evidence. In episode 2, she has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at a crime scene, and in episode 3, she removes all documented evidence from the police station, totally breaking the chain of custody and making everything she removed no longer admissible in a court of law.
Remake of HPI (2021)
First of all, it’s not a clone of “Bones” or other cop shows that deal with people with marketable skills when it comes to police work. Like most shows starting out, it’s a bit shaky.
Cops aren’t going to use someone that high-strung
The girl is good, obviously, though acting maniacally can’t continue like in the first episode. Unlike depictions of lab techs and the like in other shows that show them almost “off their meds.” Secondly, the actor playing Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) is formidable, he was very good in “Manifest.” As shows like this get smoother and the characters develop, they tend to get better and the flow starts to work.
As for the talented Morgan, it’s hard to believe that someone with her skills wouldn’t have been hired by a tech company or a financial firm, but I guess there are people who, despite their talent, couldn’t make it work in the regular world
